|Gurpreet Singh Cheema and Gurpreet Singh were arrested and charged with importing drugs and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking after a first seizure on Sept. 2, where Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers searched a commercial truck entering Canada with a load of televisions. Officers discovered 60 packages of cocaine weighing 69 kg stashed in the vehicle. The men have elected to be tried by a Court of Queen’s Bench judge without a jury, but with a preliminary hearing.|
In a second seizure two days later, on Sept. 4. CBSA officers searched a truck containing a shipment of novelty items. Concealed within the load were 34 packages of cocaine. Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu, 34, is charged with importing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
|Border officers at Coutts uncovered yet another shipment of drugs Oct. 10 when a commercial vehicle hauling produce was searched and more than 80 bricks of cocaine were found. The total weight of the seizure was 92.74 kg. Jasmail Singh Sander, 53, of B.C., and Parmjeet Singh Sandhu, 31, of Ontario, were charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and importing drugs. In all three instances, the commercial trucks were operating for commercial trucking companies based in British Columbia.|
In total over 203 kg of cocaine was seized.
